In analyzing the section entitled "Shaman" from the book The Woman Warrior by Maxine Hong Kingston, I found many occurrences to be closely paralleled to my beliefs of Taoism. The author accurately illustrates how several ghosts and deceased ancestors are active in everyday life. Her mother's constant relations with the spirits and characters such as the half ape seem rather ordinary and common to my belief as a Taoist. These supernatural beings simply portray the

form. It would appear that while the author's mother has been influenced greatly by Religious Taoism, she is also sure to take opportunities to harness her ch'i as stated in Augmented Power. Throughout this section there is a close comparison to the belief of Taoism and their normal activities in life. It constantly reinforces the ideas of ghosts, magic, and other extraterrestrial creatures so as to remind people of the mysticism that is all around.
