There have been many attempts to save undeveloped countries by those superior. During the 18th century there were many attempts to save the natives of South America. The Spanish attempted to help them by introducing Christianity. The Portuguese had no attempts to save them, instead they were more concerned with enslaving them. The Mission introduced an audience to events that took place in South America during the 18th century.

The Mission showed two main characters Fr. Mendoza and Fr. Gabriel who used different methods to save the natives of South America during the Treaty of Madrid. Even though both methods did not turn out successful they lead the Natives into christianity.
