We as the audience can classify Othello as a tragic hero; a once noble military official who experiences a fall from grace due to the lack of the ability to perceive deception, and also due to the fact of being an honourable and trustworthy character. He was strung along by Iago's lies, and manipulated like a marionette. Iago may have one the intellectual battle with Othello, but Othello remains the hero.
