Critical Evaluation - Of Mice and Men "Of Mice and Men" is one of John Steinbeck's most famous novels. The novel portrays lonely people chasing after broken dreams. Steinbeck highlights the tragic position in which most of the characters exist. It is set in the 1930's at the time of the "Great Depression". I conclude that the novel was successful in relation to the characters because it portrayed how all American citizens were treated, how they all sought after the same dream and their loneliness. John Steinbeck knew all about the situations that arose in the book as he had experienced it first hand. Overall I really enjoyed "Of Mice and Men" and I think it achieved what it was set out to do.
