Nat Turner was a slave in the county of Southampton, Virginia. In 1831, he headed an insurrection against the whites, leading several slaves in a bloody massacre that lasted just over 24 hours. It would be safe to assume that emancipation would have happened around the same time that it did regardless of whether or not Turner had murdered over 50 whites or not. The fact remains that Turner's rebellion ultimately hurt the slaves rather than helped them. One can thus only draw the conclusion that Turner should not have done what he did.
