THE MERCHANT OF VENICE
The Merchant of Venice is one of the most celebrated Shakespearean plays. However, whether or not its title is equally matched is a question that has left many divided.
The first and most obvious flaw with the title is the reference to a 'Merchant of Venice' while in the play there are actually two merchants, namely, Shylock and Antonio. Who the 'merchant' really is, is unclear. Apart from this, if the

Ultimately, this leaves Shakespear with Antonio. Although Antonio is a rather lack lustre character, he seems to be the center of the play. He plays an important role for almost every character and is also the one with the most connections.
From this point of view, the title of the play is quite sensible but fails to reflect the grandness of the play that is " The Merchant of Venice. "
