Scene I The play of Macbeth opens with three witches. They set the mood of the play and introduce a very important theme: "Fair is foul, and foul is fair" (line 12). Macduff displays Macbeth's severed head as everyone hails Malcolm as king of Scotland. The nobles are rewarded for their duties and everyone is invited to Scone in celebration.
