Furthermore, the present data suggest that CHO beverages play an important role in the saliva flow rate response during recovery from exercise. Taken together with the current literature regarding CHO availability, exercise and immune function (19-21), the findings of the present study provide endurance athletes with yet further reasons to maintain adequate CHO and fluid intake during heavy schedules of training and competition.
