He also includes symbols in the story, these symbols include Charlie and Algernon who symbolise innocence and thriving like no other character in the novel. Keyes also includes a hidden moral statement which is from my point of view: "If you really try hard to become something/someone you will overcome all obstacles that stand I your way."
