There were various reasons why the enforcing of Prohibition failed. I will talk about what lead to Prohibition, what it consisted of, and what I think the reasons it failed were. By 1929, New York City had 32.000 speakeasies. In other words, there was no way Prohibition would work with so many counter backs. To conclude, despite the rise of Al Capone and other gangsters, it was not until the period between 1932 and 1933 that Prohibition was brought to an end, not working at all.
