Jesus acknowledged the valid authority of the state Jesus did in fact remind Pilate that his authority was not autonomous (John 19:10-11), but that it was delegated from the One who was above. Also in Romans 13:7 it is revealed that subjection is not required when a government expects something that is not justifiably due, and again reminds us that the higher authority is God.
