Throughout history, countries have extended their rule and government to other countries. This is called Imperialism. During the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, imperialism became an important issue in India. The Europeans, namely the British, began colonizing vast portions of India. These imperialistic movements had varying effects, some with positive repercussions, while other effects ended negatively. The British took control of India knowing they would gain much by doing so. The Indians, just like the British, suffered deaths, their land was taken, as well as their rights, but possibly more crippling, their culture. Clearly death was a burden shared by both sides. When British imperialism over India came to an end, both parties were subject to positive as well as negative outcomes.
