Macbeth's Downfall
"Fair is foul, and foul is fair: Hover through the fog and filthy air." (Act 1, Scene 1:12-13)
This quote is interesting to me because it is an oxymoron. Its impossible how fair can be foul when fair is equal or mild and foul is gross and rotten. Its significance is that the witches delight in the confusion of good and bad, beauty and ugliness.

In conclusion, that Macbeth is a victim of fate is obviously false as his wife has no control over her husband. Macbeth is controlled by himself, accepting no warning signs of disaster from his conscience, letting his ambition rule his internal struggle and finally letting his ambition rule himself. Although Lady Macbeth had influenced Macbeth in certain ways, Macbeth himself is the victim of nothing other than his own character.
