She explains that the first proposition is where individuals try to maximize their outcomes. Hatfield's two main influences in this piece of writing were Austin and Walster in which most of these ideas are backed upon. There are still things that need to be explained further in this Theory of Equity which could simplify it even more, so that modern day relationships can and will be able to understand the meaning and basis of equity.
