The last stanza deals with the way in which he tries to erase the memories of his partner by removing these physical objects, however the man finds that he cannot rid him self of these memories because of the scent the woman has left in his pillow. Perhaps what Goodfellow is saying, is that we should not be caught up in physical possessions and traits.
