The Americans then decided to abandon their Mulberry, while the British harbors was not in use until July. Most supplies meanwhile had to be beach-landed. With the beaches behind them, the Allies could afford to turn their eyes eastward to the Seine River and beyond. For a time these prizes would appear to be beyond their grasp.
