Nonetheless, the fiasco in his personal dream also typifies the collapse of the American Dream on the whole in which social discrimination and class divisions, spiritual voidness and hollow gaiety, and the decadence of values and ideals prevail. The novel is a great reminder that money cannot make the world go around, after all.
