There's a growing trend within the educational system in America, often going unnoticed, by the mainstream populace. It's like pushing them off a boat, into a lake, before they have learned to swim. If a student needs help in a specific subject, then he or she should get it, but we can't legitimately identify a student's problem areas, unless we first assess what they have learned.
